About Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is the fastest growing martial arts style in the world. A systematic and highly effective approach to ground fighting, BJJ employs take-downs, joint locks and chokes. With proper training, a skilled BJJ practitioner is able to utilize leverage and technique in order to control much heavier and stronger opponents.

Training in BJJ provides many benefits, such as self-defense skills, improved cardiovascular health, flexibility, weight loss, and greater muscular and mental endurance. In addition, BJJ promotes many intangibles, such as increased self-confidence, stress reduction, and improvements in mental acuity and proprioception that comes with learning and testing a complex new skill.

Our Approach

Beginners are our specialty!

One of the most rewarding parts of teaching Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is to witness the transformation that occurs within our students as their skills and confidence grow. We focus heavily on fundamentals, conditioning and movement.

Our first step is to prepare your body for a BJJ practice. Classes begin with a thoughtful, instructor-led workout that improves strength, muscular endurance, flexibility and the capacity of your cardiovascular system. Furthermore, we make a point to use functional body-weight exercises that incorporate/mimic the movements of BJJ. We teach your body how to move efficiently so as to execute techniques properly. Once you know how to move like an animal, we will teach you how to fight like one.

Focus on Self-Defense

At Dream Jiu-jitsu/Subforce BJJ, we believe BJJ is a martial art and system of combat first, and a sport or athletic endeavor second. Although we LOVE sport Jiu-Jitsu and actively compete in BJJ tournaments, our primary concern is that our students can keep themselves safe in real-life situations.

Sparring

Sparring/Randori/Rolling is a fundamental part of BJJ. To gain proficiency, you must execute techniques against an actively resisting training partner. This is how you learn what it really takes to apply the techniques you learn. This is how you get GOOD! BJJ sparring is strictly grappling, so no punches or kicks are utilized or allowed. Students spar when they feel ready in an atmosphere of safety, respect and learning.
